Converting models from Skandha4 to VRML

Skandha4 is a Lisp-based graphics system for creating and displaying 3-D models. These models were primarily used to create the Digital Anatomist Interative atlases and associated movies. It was used in the brain project, and still runs the dynamic scene generator. See the project web page for more information. Currently the only version of skandha4 that I know runs is the one used by the scene generator on uvula. The main use right now for skandha4 is to convert its legacy 3-D models to VRML, from which they can be imported into more up-to-date 3-D modeling packages.

Most of the models are in /usr/local/data1, especially skandha4models, but currently the ones worth converting are from the cadaver brain (used to create the brain atalses), the thoracic viscera models, and the skull. Others could also be converted with more effort.

In each case we want to create a set of primitive models, each associated with an FMA term.

A set of brain models are already converted in this way in ~brinkley/public_html/models. Originals for these are in /usr/local/data1.

Primitives and correspondences for the thorax models are in /usr/local/data1/rausch/em65f/c (or it might be d - they both seem to be the same).

Primitives and correspondences for the Skull are in ~brinkley/data/skull/p. I've written an example script, called test-convert-to-vrml.sh, which calls the only working copy of skandha on uvula to do the conversion. This script loads test-convert-to-vrml.lsp, which in turn loads the required conversion lisp routines, and then in turn converts each primitive listed in the file, placing each in ../d. Note this must be run on uvula.

Given this example it should be possible to modify the script to get the rest of the skull models and the thoracic viscera models.
