VIQUEN: A Visual Query Engine for RDF

Tutorial 1: Extracting information from the Foundational Model of Anatomy (FMA)

Part 2: Executing the query

In the first part of this tutorial, you worked through constructing a simple query which will extract information from the Foundational Model of Anatomy (FMA) ontology. You will now execute the query. In part 3, you will visualize and explore the query results.

Step 1 - Viewing and saving the compiled IML query

After working through part 1 of this tutorial, you should now have the following execution environment open.

On the left-hand side of the screen you will see the compiled query in IML.
Click on "Save Query" to save the query to a local file with a ".iml" file extension.

Step 2 - Running the query and saving the results in RDF

Click on "Run Query" to execute the query and extract the information from the FMA. Note that it may take a few minutes to execute the query. When the query is finished, you should see the message "Query returned 111 results". Click "OK".

On the right-hand side of the screen you will see the returned results in XML/RDF format.
Click on "Save Results" to save the results to a local file with a ".rdf" file extension.

Step 3 - Visualizing the query results

Click on "Visualize Results" to open the query results in the visualization environment.
