Description

Since dura died, we really need a second Win2k domain controller. The DNS is all ready to go I think.

This was pretty easy to do, I found a good summary of roles for Additional Domain Controllers at http://www.activewin.com/win2000/step_by_step/active_directory/domaincntrl.shtml

To make it a backup controller:

  1. Administrative Tools -> Configure Your Server
  2. click One or more servers are already running in my network [this is the same as running dcpromo.exe ]
  3. select Additional domain controller, click next until done with Active Directory Wizard

Since we aren't using Dynamic DNS, make sure to uncheck the "register this connection in DNS" in your Local Area Connection, or you'll get a really long "Preparing network connections" at startup. After the above steps are complete, add the contents of %windir%\system32\config\netlogon.dns to DNS manually (except the biostr.washington.edu A record).
